Day 1 - Bangkok

 Bangkok

Visit of the temples of Bangkok

This activity will make you travel through the most famous temples of Bangkok. From the Wat Phra Kaew, Wat Pho to the Wat Arun, you will be amazed by the rich architectural culture of the capital of Thailand and all its wonders.

Exploring the klongs

Mahasawat is only about 50 kms from Bangkok in Nakhon Pathom Province, near to Mahidol University’s Salaya Campus. The Province of Nakhon Pathom is criss-crossed by many canals (klongs) and irrigation ditches. Mahasawat is built along one of these canals which is the life source of the community, and for many, the only way of commuting.

Day 2 - Bangkok - Dammoen Saduak – Kanchanaburi

 Bangkok  Kanchanaburi

Mae Klong Railway Market

The Maeklong Railway Market has been around since 1905. It is found in the province of Samut Songkhram, located on the Gulf of Thailand. Fishing was (and still is) one of the main livelihoods of the people who lived here, and the market was another way in which to sell their goods. Officials decided to build a railway in order to better deliver these goods to provinces around Thailand, including the capital. The market remained, however, despite the new tracks that cut through it. You will hear the train long before you actually see it. Vendors and merchants collectively begin to coolly move their belongings and umbrellas away from the tracks as the train barrels forward, laying on its horn every now and then to warn people of its inevitable passing; this is why the market is also known as the ‘umbrella pulldown’ market. Watch as the food you are about to devour is literally run over by the train as it passes. The train is so close you can reach out and touch it as it zooms by, though we do not recommend doing this.

Damnoen Saduak Floating Market

The most famous of the floating markets of Bangkok is Damnoen Saduak, about 100 kilometers southwest of Bangkok. This buzzing market is at its best in the early morning before the crowds arrive and the heat of the day builds up.

The JEATH War Museum

JEATH stands for Japan, England, America, Australia, Thailand and Holland, representing the nationalities of the prisoners of war (POW's) who were forced to work on the construction of the famous "Bridge On The River Kwai". The museum is on the bank of the River, inside Wat Chai Chumphon temple, and displays graphic images of the terrible conditions inflicted on the many young men that died and the many that survived to tell the story.

This temple is mentioned on an inscription dating from 1082 still in place at the nearby temple of Prasat Phnom Wan, with the name of King Jayavarman VI. An inscription dating from about a century later at Preah Khan, near Angkor, as quoted on imperial roads.

Phanom Wan

While in the past it was dedicated to Lord Shiva, later many Buddha Images were placed inside the sanctuary, and now a large Buddha Image is standing in the main tower. The grounds are well kept, and it is pleasant to walk around the temple compound. It is not as impressive as Prasat Hin Phimai, Prasat Phanom Rung or Prasat Muang Tam, but is certainly worth a short visit.
